Critical Reflection

First and foremost, I would like thank Professor Brad for being a professional and an outstanding lecture for the module throughout the past 13 Weeks. It has been a pleasure learning from you and thank you for providing the chance and guidance to improve our communicating skills as a class. At the start of the module, I set a goal for myself that I will be more precise in my public speaking skills and improve my understanding of how to be a critical thinker . It is safe to say that I had benefitted from this module as I was able to further understand what critical thinking is all about and able to apply what I had learned in a form of mini presentations. During the module lessons, the multiple assignment that was given to us allows me to place my critically thinking skills to the test and slowly I developed more consensus approach in what I wrote down especially for the reader response assignment. The Paul Elder’s framework gave me new insight on how to analyse problems and a

The Economic Times’s article on "What are solar light panels and how do they work?", educates us on the usage and the functions of solar lighting panels, and how it is being used for both residential and industrial lighting. According to  “ What are solar light panels... “(2019), Photovoltaic (PV) modules are used to make solar light panels. A solar light panel system is “made up of several solar cells that are either linked or not connected to the main power grid.” The article mentions if the solar panel lighting system is” linked to the grid, the direct current (DC) power generated by the PV panels is converted to alternating current (AC) electricity by a power conditioning unit.” Individual solar or PV cells are constructed of semiconductor components and may generate power on their own. The solar light panel system “consists of electrical wire connections, mounting hardware, batteries as storage for the extra energy generated” and solar panels itself. These panels are dur

CA1 - Descriptive Reflection

Dear Professor Brad   My name is Nazran and I am a student in SIT mechanical engineering who is currently participating in your Critical Thinking and Communication module. I would like to formally introduce myself to you as I believe we do not have adequate time to do so in class.   My interest in engineering began since young. I have loved to repair and fix my broken toys since I was 4 years old. I was an avid collector of Thomas and Friends train models. Often, the toy train model would come with loose wiring or poor battery connections, or a slow motor. I took upon the chance to tear down the modeled train to fix it on my own or improvise its motor speed. However, my interest grew even further when I got exposed to the knowledge of cars. One day, I chanced upon a Formula 1 racing channel on television and afterwards, I would watch reviews and read about its vehicular specification just for my own knowledge. The sound the engine makes was like music to me, and the engineering princip

Task 3 Paraphrasing

“While all engineers should have good communication skills, global engineers face additional challenges, making effective communication an imperative.” Debra Kraft, Careers Content Writer, Demand Media (2016) According to Debra Kraft, Whilst communication is key, unfavourable obstacles forces global engineers to improve their effectiveness of communication hence making effective communication essential.

Task 5.2 “Critical Thinking: The Soul of Communication"

According to the excerpt taken from “Critical Thinking: The Soul of Communication” found in Pearson’s TalentLens Website, critical thinking is the key to unlock the great leadership in us. Being able to communicate our thoughts and ideas precisely eliminates any misunderstandings, errors and faults that is usually a problem when working in groups. With relevance to the excerpt, without critical thinking, the person that plays the role of leaders will in fact perform poorly in his or her duties as a leader. Critical thinking is a tool which allows leaders to bring out the best out of its followers through thoughtful conversations which in fact leads to effective communication. I personally see critical thinking as a valuable skill set for me to constantly improve so as to provide a better service to my own future workplace and colleagues. It will allow me to improve my proper reasoning skills and according to the excerpt, “develop a coherent argument” with my future colleagues     whi

Task 3: The Importance of communication skills for engineers

“While all engineers should have good communication skills, global engineers face additional challenges, making effective communication an imperative.” Debra Kraft, Careers Content Writer, Demand Media (2016) According to Debra Kroft, the quote explains that the importance of effective communication is crucial especially for global engineers. Working with various groups of people would not only require good communication skills but for others to be able to understand the goals and ideas of the said work or project, it has to be a form of effective communication as to create a mutual understanding among all respected parties. Effective communication entails to further strengthen the ties within respected parties even though facing issues such as language barriers or the work culture difference. Good communication skills will only allow us to be able to deliver the message across the different parties but effective communication will enable both parties to have a mutual understanding of
